CBS turns magazines into TVs

6a00d83451d69069e20120a55caa53970cYes you read that right. CBS is planning to put tiny TVs in a magazine. Not for long term stuff, just to promote their new fall line up of shows. Which really isn’t all that new, it’s just them saying, “Hey all those shows we have are coming back!”

Next month the CBS video player will be in select copies of Entertainment Weekly. Select copies? Yeah I’m not sure what that means either. Maybe it will only be in copies that subscribers get instead of just on the shelves of where ever you choose to buy print media.

There will be five “channels” in the ad that shows montages of CBS content along with ads from Pepsi Max. When you open the pages it is on the ad will greet you with an intro clip hosted by the stars of The Big Bang Theory.

Isn’t this kind of pointless? I mean it’s a cool way to get an ad across, but isn’t it just a waste when the exact same stuff can be shown on the internet? Wouldn’t it be a waste of money? These paper thin video players have to cost something, and magazines are usually read, let sit on a table, have something spill on them, then tossed.

I want to get a hold of one to take it apart. I want to know how that thing works! So if you want to get your hands on one look for the Septemper issue of Entertainment Weekly that comes out September 11th.
