Robots to learn to play Mario

super-mario-brosA challenge has been offered. That challenge? To create a robot that can play Super Mario Bros. for the Nintendo Entertainment System.

Great, now the robots will rule the world AND my high score!

Julian Togelius and Sergey Karakovskiy of the IT University of Copenhagen, Denmark made the contest. They challenge people to create a system that will learn to play the game the same way we all learned when we were young, trial and error.

The winner of the contest will not only receive the title of “Guy who created a robot that can play Mario,” but will also get a cash prize. $200, $150, and $100 will be awarded at  London’s Games Innovation Conference later this month, and a $500 prize at Italy’s IEEE Symposium on Computational Intelligence and Games in September.
