New Screen Writer for World War Z

by

World_War_Z_book_coverWorld War Z, for those that don’t know, is a book about the world after a zombie war. It is told from an interview standpoint. The author, Max Brooks, interviews people that had a part in the war, or lived through it. The audio book is amazing for it cause it’s a different voice for each person. Brad Pitt’s production company “Plan B” is currently making the movie for WWZ. There are just a few snags…

Seems like this movie is having trouble keeping a screen writer! J. Michael Straczynski was writing the zombie epic. He also worked on Babylon 5 and Changling, neither of which I saw or cared about. Now they have Matthew Michael Carnahan grabbing the bloody pen and trying his hand at it. Carnahan worked on The Kingdom recently.

Call me ignorant…but how hard is it really to write a book into a movie? The work is done for you already! I know very little about screen writing, and I’ve only done a little bit of it in my experience, but it seems like book to movie adaptations are the easiest of the bunch. Prove me wrong in the comments, please.

I loved this book and the audio book counterpart. The way the story is told is something I’ve never seen before. I really hope they don’t dumb it down too much or cut major sections out. The story of humanity surviving and how people dealt with the situation is a great story.
